Apple launched the long-awaited iPhone App Store today. While few, if any, people can actually install the applications listed yet (you need an iPhone 3G or the iPhone 2.0 firmware update - both of which aren't available yet), the sole destination for official iPhone software already has lists for the Top Ten Apps overall and the Top Ten Free Apps (see below). By the time the iPhone 3G goes on sale tomorrow, the App Store will include more than 500 native applications, including 125 free titles.
In related news, Apple's posted a video demo showing the Sega-game Super Monkey Ball in action.
What's cool is how the demonstration shows how the game puts the iPhone accelerometer to excellent use. So the Super Monkey Ball responds to your movements. Check here to check it out.
When you can finally download and install iPhone applications yourself tomorrow, you'll be able to do so - as you can see- through iTunes, but also wirelessly through a version of the App Store on your iPhone with the iPhone 2.0 firmware update installed.
Developers get to pick the price they want to charge for their program and receive 70 percent of revenues, paid to them on a monthly basis, to Apple's 30 percent cut. All credit card, hosting and marketing services are included in this percentage and Apple doesn't charge developers a dime for free applications.
