Apple Starts Selling Contract-Free iPhones

Apple has started selling unsubsidized iPhones. This allows consumers to pick up an iPhone 3G without committing AT&T for two years. You'll pay through the nose for the privilege, however: $599 for a 8GB model and $699 for the 16GB edition. Unlike with AT&T, you don't already need to have a contract with the operator to pick up a contract-free iPhone (as many as you like) from Apple.
