OpenTable has now seated over 2 million diners through its mobile apps, including its very popular iPhone application. More importantly for its restaurant partners, the OpenTable estimates it has generated more than $100 million through its wireless technology. It bases that number on an estimated average check of $50.

OpenTable has doubled the number of seated diners through its mobile apps since November, when it hit a million diners about a year after the launch of its first iPhone app. What this means is adoption of the app is accelerating. In addition to the iPhone, OpenTable is available for Palm, Blackberry and Android smartphones.

OpenTable allows diners to find and book reservations at more than 12,000 different restaurants in multiple countries from the Web or a smartphone. By using any of OpenTable's mobile applications, diners can view a list of available tables at nearby restaurants and make reservations from their phones.

"We are extremely encouraged by the rapid consumer adoption of OpenTable's mobile suite of products, which in turn is generating meaningful revenue for OpenTable's restaurant partners," said Jeff Jordan, CEO of OpenTable in a statement. "Diners on-the-go are able to view the real-time availability of restaurants in their vicinity and immediately book a free, confirmed reservation, all without making a single phone call."

While OpenTable applications are available only for the iPhone, Palm, Blackberry and Android platforms, users of other types of smartphone can book reservations through OpenTable by pointing their browsers to its mobile-optimized site at mobile.opentable.com.
